COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS



Salary Range: $54,500 - $81,000 annually depending on skills and experience.

In addition to salary, Liberty Utilities offers an incentive plan based on company and individual performance.

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES/ ACCOUNTABILITY




Under moderate supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction; maintenance and repair of water distribution systems and related facilities. Answers public inquiries and complaints in a tactful, courteous manner. Assist Operator III as directed. Performs other duties as required.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.

  • Ability to read a meter accurately

  • Keeps the Operations Supervisor aware of all field customer service problems and needs

  • Uses PC tablets for field service applications to process service orders, etc.

  • Performs minor service repairs

  • Completes all service orders assigned daily

  • Works delinquent disconnects and reconnects as assigned

  • Resets meters as needed or instructed

  • Create and complete service orders and other paperwork

  • Operates various hand and power tools and mechanical equipment while installing, operating, and repairing mains, services, meters, valves, and fire hydrants

  • Installs, taps, disinfects, tests, and connects water mains and appurtenances

  • Involved in shutdowns, repairs, disinfects, and restores water service to customers and tests for leaks

  • May take water quality samples

  • Safely set up work area traffic controls

  • Assists in making field and job-related decisions using Company policies and procedures.

  • Reports and communicates to his or her supervisor all daily activities, needed repairs, hazards, challenges, needs, etc.

  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Reports all unsafe activities to supervisor, EHS Manager, and/or Human Resources

  • Maintains and accounts for all tools and equipment and assigned vehicles

  • Responsible for keeping crew truck clean and orderly

  • Attends and participates in weekly safety meetings

  • Obtains CPR and First Aid training

  • Works standby and overtime as needed

  • Performs various other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor, or SWRCB DDW the assigned lead or the Operations Manager.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS





  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Must have a valid California driver’s license

  • Must possess the required Grade 2 Water Distribution Certificate and Grade 1 Water Treatment Certificate issued by the SWRCB DDW at the time of appointment or be able to obtain the required Grade D2 and/or T1 within 18 months of hire date

  • Must have a minimum of two years of related experience and knowledge of basic construction, maintenance methods, meter reading, and/or procedures in a water utility.

  • Understand the basic day-to-day operations of the Utility Service Department

  • Be proficient in the use and functions of the (C.I.S.) Customer Information System Program

  • Will be required work weekends, holidays, overtime, and standby duty as needed

  • A person in this position must have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with internal and external customers, under normal and adverse conditions

  • Must be able to work independently and responsibly with moderate supervision and function in a team environment

  • Must have basic computer skills, including PC Windows operations knowledge and experience with PC laptops or tablets

  • Able to follow Company rules, procedures, and directions from a supervisor and/or Management.

  • Maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. This includes, but is not limited to, those to whom the position reports to, supervisors, coworkers, public, vendors, contractors, etc.

  • Must meet established goals and deadlines with direct supervision

  • Be able to exercise independent judgment, discretion, professionalism, and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential manner

  • Must maintain a professional appearance as a front-line representative of the Company

  • Be able to drive a Company vehicle, traverse over even or uneven terrain, answer telephones, and use necessary equipment

  • Be able to travel occasionally

  • Must be able to perform a wide range of physically strenuous tasks

  • Obtains CPR and First Aid training

  • Able to perform most utility service tasks and operate most field equipment without direction or instruction

  • May still need direction or instruction in completing some tasks or operating some equipment.

  • Rated as “Meets Expectations” or better on all applicable Competency Factors on most recent Performance Management Plan (PMP)

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS





  • Vision and hearing correctable to enable understanding of instructions and performance of job duties

  • Sufficient physical dexterity to walk, drive, lift, carry, stoop, bend, push, pull, kneel, and climb stairs/ladders, in and out of trenches

  • Get in and out of various types of vehicles continuously during the work shift

  • Dig for a full work shift or longer

  • Operate hand and power tools in a dry and wet environment

  • Operate heavy equipment over uneven terrain

  • Must be able to wear a full face or partial respirator to enter confined spaces to work in

  • Must be able to walk long distances

    Must be able to tolerate extreme weather temperatures and wind

  • Ability to handle (lift, carry, operate, etc.) materials and equipment necessary for the job*

*NOTE: It is recommended that personnel do not individually engage in lifting and carrying activities that exceed the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Recommended Weight Limit (RWL) to be lifted with two hands, under ideal conditions, of 51 pounds maximum. Any supplies, materials, tools, and equipment in excess of this weight should be handled using appropriate material handling processes, procedures, and methods, including team lifting, material handling devices, mechanized equipment, and other suitable means of assistance.
