The Manager, Business Continuity Management (BCM) is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving an enterprise BCM program, primarily addressing business continuity and crisis management needs while ensuring integration with existing operational incident management and emergency response programs. 

In close alignment with the Enterprise Risk Management team, the Manager, BCM will drive the evolution of the enterprise resilience function.  The program will cover IT systems, operating and office facilities, personnel, supply chain, and other core business areas, addressing potentially disruptive events such as natural disasters, pandemics, malicious or unintentional information systems outages.

The mandate of this highly visible role is executed in partnership with other members of the Enterprise Risk and Resilience team (ERM, physical security, information governance), as well as IT, Operations, Sustainability and Strategic Planning groups to support the ongoing development and maturation of programs and initiatives to enhance resilience.


Cross-functional collaboration at all levels off the organization is required to successfully implement the following key responsibilities:

  • Define an enterprise Business Continuity Management program which seamlessly connects business continuity planning, crisis management, and emergency management.
  • Enhance existing business continuity and IT disaster recovery programs, including program strategy, objectives, governance structure, document management, training, templates, reporting, and performance management (KPIs) in support of the organization’s most critical business processes.
  • Lead a group of Business Continuity Coordinators who assist with subsidiary level plan development, testing, updates, and activation.
  • Conduct Business Continuity Plan (BCP), IT disaster recovery and incident management assurance activities (including plan review and testing) to confirm the quality and target maturity.
  • Ensure comprehensiveness of incident management preparedness and response measures for all business areas, provide oversight for all enterprise incident and emergency response measures.
  • Support activation of incident and recovery plans, as and where required.
  • Continuously drive business continuity management program improvement aimed at augmenting enterprise resilience.
  • Regularly review and update the enterprise Crisis Management Plan (CMP).
  • Facilitate use of the CMP during an event; serve as either the primary or alternate Crisis Management Team Controller.
  • Arrange for annual (or as requested) testing of the CMP through drills and tabletop exercises confirming complete integration between corporate and operational/functional response plans.
  • Arrange appropriate recurrent training and onboarding for new crisis management team members. 
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure crisis media training is provided to all potential spokespeople. 
  • Report to leadership regarding the performance of enterprise business continuity and resilience capabilities.
  • Ensure legal, regulatory and compliance requirements applicable to scope are met, maintaining a state of audit-readiness to support regulatory and business requirements.
  • Design and execute the implementation plan for mass notification tool (scope, schedule, and deliverables) for all resilience use cases: crisis management, business continuity, etc.).                                                                                                                                                                

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in business continuity management, incident management, and crisis management in a large, multinational organization.
  • 7-10 years of project management experience with cross-functional, multi-business group teams.
  • Business continuity and IT disaster recovery professional certifications preferred.
  • Utilization of a business continuity management software solution.
  • Auditing or assurance in IT and operational environments.
  • Leadership during incident response, tabletop exercises, partnership development, community collaboration, and training (incident command system).
  • Familiarity with business process improvement methodology and risk control frameworks and practices (e.g. COSO, ISO 31000).
  • Working knowledge of existing and evolving applicable regulatory requirements (power and utility sector experience is favored).
  • Learning agility to support changes in business strategy and implementation of new technology.
  • Creates an environment of accountability, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional communication at all levels, including executive presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong organization, decision-making and analytical abilities.
  • Capability for up to 35% travel, including international destinations.
