Mandate:
An entry  level engineer will work under the direction of more senior engineers or supervision, analyze and protect the transmission and distribution system and interconnections.  Perform short circuit studies, coordinate all transmission and distribution relaying systems, fulfill NERC compliance requirements and assist in coordinating and compiling project cost estimates.  Investigate, analyze and propose mitigation techniques for power quality problems occurring on the distribution system and customer's facilities.


Job Functions:

  • Design and analyze protective systems and develop necessary settings and logic as required to protect the transmission and distribution systems consistent with company standards and applicable codes.  Calculate protective relay settings for distribution and transmission system, relay and fuse coordination, calculation of fault currents on transmission and distribution systems, analysis of relay operations.
  • Analyze and plan for cost effective transmission and distribution additions, reinforcements and interconnections to provide an adequate, reliable and safe electrical system.
  • Assimilate and submit data as required to the Southwest Power Pool, NERC and the various state public service commissions for inclusion in reports, computer simulation studies and/or other needs.
  • Develop and maintain computer databases as required for short circuit, UFLS and other system studies.
  • Investigate, analyze and propose mitigation techniques for power quality problems occurring on the distribution system and/or at customer's facilities.
  • Assist in coordinating and compiling the cost estimates for transmission and distribution projects which will be included in the Construction Budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASPEN OneLiner and/or CYMEDIST is highly desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
