Mandate
This position will support the FP&A team’s mission to simplify the complex, tell the financial story and drive informed decision making.
The purpose of this position is to provide FP&A support in the area of Corporate Services and to drive improvements across all FP&A processes including Budgeting, Forecasting, Management Reporting, Variance Analysis, CapEx Analysis and Performance Measurement.

Job Functions:

• FP&A support for Liberty Utilities
    o Preparation/ Consolidation and review of budgets, forecasts and
    o Assist with variance analysis and review of monthly, quarterly and annual deliverables to Executives and Board of APUC
• Build relationships with various stakeholders across corporate office, Liberty Power, Liberty Corporate and regional management to understand recurring planning, forecasting and management reporting needs.
• Review forecasting by working closely with Regional FP&A team and business units monthly to refresh rest of year forecasting for the Income Statement and Capital Investments.
• Work alongside other team members such as FP&A Managers for long term planning ensuring data consistency around production forecasting and actual Connections /volumes, rate base, ROY Forecast for PL + CapEx and Capital Structure Assumptions.
• FP&A Process Improvements
    o Provide recommendations to drive continuous improvement and better accountability to process and deadlines within FP&A, regional finance and all stakeholders involved in planning, forecasting and reporting
    o Design of and compliance with processes and internal controls to ensure timely and accurate reporting, and ensure full compliance with the SOX program
    o Assist with broader organization FP&A process improvements
• Analytics & Modelling
    o Develop a strong understanding of the Regional long term model
    o Develop cost management processes and forecasting processes
    o Assist with benchmarking performance and processes against competitors and identifying best practices
    o Prepare and analyze statement of cash flow and balance sheet
• Corporate Oversight
    o Review analysis of the financial results based on historical trends, variances and recommending corrective actions to influence future results
    o Review of Liberty Utilities  consolidated Balanced Scorecard (including LU corporate and regional, LPCo, APUC and LABS) and communicating results to the senior management
    o Preparation of a consolidated calendar for monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines
    o Provide support when required to all leaders within FP&A and respond to ad hoc requests from business groups, executives and Vice President
• Provide financial analysis support and analysis for ad hoc projects and bridge results between scenarios
• Attend monthly operations meetings and variance meetings to discuss Financial and Operational results
• Partner with Corporate Accounting, External Reporting, Treasury, HR, IT and other departments
• Work with Internal and External auditors providing support for Management Reporting

Minimum Qualifications

• An accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) is required
• Minimum 3-5 years of managerial experience in an FP&A role is required and prior experience in financial accounting and maintaining an environment with strong internal controls is desired
• Experience in consolidating budgets and forecasts of subsidiaries an asset
• Experience with tier one planning & reporting software (BPC/Hyperion preferred) and experience with various other software such as Great Plains, SAP, Clarity 7 Studio and SmartView (would be an asset)
• Exceptional MS Excel modelling and analytical skills
• Good MS PowerPoint skills
• Experience preparing and analyzing cash flow statements and balance sheets
• Experience managing complex initiatives in a matrixed corporate environment
• Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines; multiā€tasking and organization skills
• Motivation to lead and expand role in a dynamic organization.
• Experience working in the utilities, energy and/or other regulated industries would be an asset
