Mandate:  An entry level engineer will work under the direction of more senior engineers or supervision and will prepare models, perform route selection, participate in right-of-way acquisition, line and structure spotting and optimization.  Prepare materials and construction specifications, design criteria and construction drawings, procure materials and support project through construction.  May also work as a teammate with an engineering technician.  Perform structure analysis and design of pole, framed and guyed structures and foundations.

Job Functions:

  • Plan, design and review transmission and distribution line projects to insure timely completion that is consistent with Company standards, NESC and other applicable codes or regulatory requirements, is cost effective and within budget guidelines.  Coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, including space control, schedule and layout optimization.
  • Perform detailed analysis and design of wood pole, steel pole, steel lattice, and other structures and foundations.
  • Perform calculations to assure compliance with recognized line design codes and standards, including analysis and design of conductors for sag, ground clearances, spacing, galloping, etc...
  • Solve problems regarding line design, right-of-way, and materials with internal and external customers to ensure successful completion of projects.  Manage and support construction project flow, including field meetings, resolving project construction conflicts and resource scheduling.
  • Prepare material take-offs, scopes of work and bid packages.  Specify and evaluate vendor designs and quotations to ensure compliance with specifications and Company purchasing guidelines to provide reliability, value and cost effectiveness over the life of the installation.
  • Assist with project preparation, including creating models, route selection, line and structure spotting and optimization.  Prepare materials and construction specifications, design criteria and construction drawings.
  • Enhance the Company's competitive position by implementing industry advancements and practices that provide time and cost savings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or 3 to 5 years of line engineering experience is required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate is preferred.
  • A working knowledge of Auto CAD, PLS-CADD and PLS_POLE is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
