Mandate: 
Manage the overall general accounting function, including people and processes, to ensure timely and accurate recording of financial information into the accounting system.  Manage Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, accruals, cash, fixed assets, expense transactions, the general ledger, and internal control compliance.  Reviews and approves journal entries, account reconciliations, budgets and financial operations.  Acts as a liaison with auditors and corporate accounting staff.  Provides leadership and active participation in accounting, financial, and administrative projects and initiatives. Manage compliance with SEC, GAAP, FERC, and various state regulatory requirements.

Job Functions:

  • Serve as a key member of the finance & administration management team to ensure timely and accurate transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP, regulatory accounting principles and Company policies.  Manage annual budget preparation and execution.
  • Lead and direct a high performing team capable of accumulating, processing and reporting accounting information in an accurate and timely manner. Provide support, training, and growth opportunities to department employees.
  • Research new accounting and regulatory pronouncements, analyze their effect on the Company’s financial statements and rate recovery mechanisms, document conclusions, and propose appropriate controls, processes and journals entries to properly reflect items in the Company’s financial statements. Manages implementations of changes to processes and controls.
  • Serve as a liaison for internal and external auditors and manage periodic audits.  Work closely with Company regulatory staff to support rate cases and other regulatory matters.  Support the regulatory data request process​​​​​​​.
  • Coordinate and analyze internal (SOX) controls under the direction of management.
  • Participate in analysis and accounting for joint ventures, goodwill and other significant Company contracts to discern accounting implications and establish processes and procedures to timely record journal entries to accurately reflect the activity. ​​​​​​​
  • Assist the Director and/or VP of Finance by completing tasks and reports as needed and contributes to the success of the department by seeking ways to improve procedures and processes.

Minimum Qualifications: B.S. Degree or equivalent and 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a highly regulated industry.  A thorough understanding of general accounting functions is required.  Strong written and oral communications skills and the ability to effectively manage accounting teams and processes required.  Prior experience managing a team desired.  CPA, MBA, or CMA certifications preferred.
