Mandate: This position is responsible for providing project coordination and project support to one or more of Algonquin’s currently-contracted, renewable energy Major Projects.


Job Functions:

  • Project administrative support including purchasing/invoicing, document management, preparing project approval packages, administering request for proposal and tender processes, etc.
  • Project cost control and cost management, including developing and maintaining monthly cost reporting and forecasting.
  • Attendance at regular weekly project review meetings.
  • Maintenance of key ‘decision support documents’ and project directory structure including, but not limited to; Excel-based Issues List, MS Project construction Gantt schedule, Risk Registry, Stakeholder Registry, Excel-based project cost tracking, etc.
  • Assist the Project Manager with publication of narrative text ‘key project documents’ including, but not limited to; Project Charter, Project Management Plan, Project Definition, etc.
  • Assist the Project Manager with preparation of monthly project status reports.
  • Assist the Project Manager and the Project’s permitting subject matter experts in management of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance documentation using the Project permitting plan as guidance to ensure permits are maintained.
  • In support of the Project Manager assist with coordination of landowner issues including interface with landowners in relation to land/surface lease compliance and payments.
  • Support the Project Manager in relation to Project Safety through collection and administration of Owner and Contractor evidence of compliance with Project Specific Safety Plans.
  • Prepare and maintain required Accounts Payable documentation.
  • Support the Project Manager and Project team with Local Government Liaison including, but not limited to; interfacing with the local municipal government in relation to payments, maintenance of municipal permits and assistance to permitting subject matter experts with administration of the process of obtaining building permits.
  • The Project Coordinator is expected to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-departmental environment that includes extensive interaction with external consultants, contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • React to changes in work assignments and priority and undertake all other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an experienced project administrator or Project Coordinator in a construction or engineering environment.
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of MS Office suite of products.
  • Candidates either holding, or in the process of obtaining, additional Project Management certification training such as the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation are preferred.
  • Must have the ability to learn and utilize new software as required with the support of training as needed.
  • Must have a basic understanding of worker and public safety issues and environmental regulations.
  • Must have the ability to succeed in Algonquin provided safety training including practical and table top training.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and the ability to rent vehicles on the corporate account.
  • Must be able and flexible to travel within Canada and the United States as needed.
  • Have an advanced level of verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • French/English bilingual is an asset but not a requirement.
