The Damage Prevention Specialist is responsible for performing damage prevention related activities on transmission and distribution systems and facilities as applicable. May serve as a company representative in meetings, programs and training related functions that are related to damage prevention. Performs such work in accordance with Company, regulatory, and safety procedures.


  • Dispatches, plans, monitors, inspects and records responses for line locate request received from excavators, engineers and other customers.
  • Reads utility prints and maps for the purpose of determining location of Gas distribution and transmission infrastructure in order to effectively mark the location in order to avoid damage
  • Locates underground gas facilities through means of electronic detection equipment.
  • Visually inspects natural gas infrastructure, ROW locations, company drawings and other utility areas for abnormal conditions or discrepancies and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in training and directing other employees in the same or similar duties.
  • Participates and may facilitate damage prevention education programs including public awareness programs, as well as liaison meetings with emergency responders.
  • Represents the company at planning and coordination meetings for excavations including, DOT, Public Works, City and other industry related organizations.
  • Performs duties within Company policies and procedures and in compliance with all Federal and state excavation / dig laws.
  • Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Requires a valid drives license in accordance with company vehicle policy.
  • 24 months total natural gas experience or experience in a damage prevention related position.
  • Must have and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for the position.
