Performs various field construction, repair, and maintenance tasks

Assists Operator III as directed

Performs other duties as required



Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs leak repairs, maintains mains, fire hydrants, installation of new services, setting meters, changing out meters, and repairs services

Maintains and accounts for all tools and equipment and assigned vehicles

Responsible for keeping crew truck clean and orderly

Attends and participates in weekly safety meetings

Obtains CPR and First Aid training

Works standby and overtime as required

Performs all work duties in a safe manner in compliance with Liberty Utilities Water safety program
Performs various other duties as may be assigned by the Operator III or, in his absence, the Operations Supervisor

Completion of all assigned tasks with minimal direction or instruction



Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

A Grade 1 Water Distribution Certification is preferred, but not required
Trainee with no prior experience in utility service and no certifications who meets company requirements to be hired must attain Grade 1 Water Distribution Certification and progress to the 2 level within two years.
Must have a valid California driver’s license, clean driving record and be working towards a Class A drivers license

Must be able to perform a wide range of physically strenuous tasks

Must be able to work overtime as required
A person in this position must have the ability to meet the public under normal and adverse conditions



Must have sufficient physical dexterity to:

Get in and out of various types of vehicles continuously during the work shift

Dig for a full work shift or longer

Bend repetitively throughout the work shift
Requires bending (forward and downward), kneeling, and climbing in and out of trenches

Operate hand and power tools in a dry and wet environment

Operate heavy equipment over uneven terrain
Must be able to wear a full face or partial respirator to enter confined spaces to work in

Must be able to walk long distances
Must have sufficient manual dexterity to drive a company vehicle, traverse over even or uneven terrain, answer telephones, and use necessary equipment

Must be able to complete paperwork

Must be able to tolerate extreme weather temperatures and wind



Vision and hearing correctable to enable understanding of instructions and performance of job duties

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English, both orally and in writing

Sufficient physical dexterity to walk, drive, lift, carry, stoop, bend, push, pull, and climb stairs/ladders

Ability to handle (lift, carry, operate, etc.) materials and equipment necessary for the job*
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather condition
