Mandate: The Senior Manager - Project Finance will be focused on the arrangement of Tax Equity, Construction Loans and other and Project Financing structures in support of the company’s development strategy; playing a key role in all aspects of the financing process including the negotiation and documentation of terms, the management of the due diligence process, and final closing. 

Job Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the project finance and tax equity raise process including: market eminence, soliciting initial lender interest, soliciting indicative term sheets, obtaining signed mandate letters, due diligence, financial close, drawing down debt facilities, lender reporting, troubleshooting issues during construction / commissioning, conversion of construction debt to operating debt or the repayment of debt facilities on maturity.
  • Responsible for the negotiations with financing parties through all deal phases ensuring best possible terms for Algonquin.
  • Responsibilities connected to aspects of the financing process including the management of due diligence. Expedite and coordinate efforts of the various Algonquin contributors, ensuing due diligence and funding milestones are met.
  • Communicate directly with key lending / banking relationships
  • Proactively maintain and seek out new relationships with providers of Tax Equity and/or Project Financing in support of Algonquin’s development group.
  • Act as an interface with internal and external legal counsel for drafting, editing and finalizing financing agreements.
  • Present to senior leadership within Algonquin Power; provide periodic and ad hoc updates to senior management.
  • Partner with Algonquin’s business development team to ensure collaboration and bilateral support of the overall company’s development strategy.
  • Train, educate, mentor and coach analysts & associates to enhance team performance
  • Work to establish standard and repeatable work processes for sourcing and executing on Project and Tax Equity financing.
  • Act as primary transition and assimilation leader of the Tax Equity partnership for the subject project, related to Operations, Asset Management and Finance within Algonquin.
  • Work closely with the business development group to build and maintain the financial models for each project under development.
  • Manage, train, coach and oversee analysts and when necessary perform, the building and enhancing of financial models to support the financing of renewable energy and other utility projects.
  • Provide quality control over models used to optimize the project capital structure (including tax equity) to optimize return metrics.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a University degree and Master’s Degree in Finance or the equivalent.
  • Must hold either an MBA, with CFA, CPA, CA or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of 10- 15 years’ experience with project finance / tax equity transactions, M&A due diligence, deal advisory, investment banking and/or other financing experience.
  • Very strong MS Excel financial model skills with 5+ years of demonstrable experience developing and managing complex financial models.
  • Experience in Visual Basics is an asset
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience in negotiations. Experience in negotiating project financing preferred
  • Training experience including creating training programs related to financial modeling, project finance and tax equity is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and Spanish, Portuguese or French considered to be assets.
