Required to start-up, shutdown, conduct Lock Out / Tag Out procedures, operate and supervise various types of equipment within the Cogeneration Facility. Must be fully oriented to the Cogeneration operations and capable of responding to emergency situations, while communicating and following directions of the Control Room Operator. Required to assist in the daily maintenance of equipment. Perform operating tests, inspections, and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment assigned in order to achieve accurate operating conditions. Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including holidays and under fast changing work environments.




  • All regulatory permits and laws

  • The site Operation Manual (which will have a list of plant specific job function that must be completed)

  • The Energy Services Agreement; OHSA

  • All the relevant safety standards of Algonquin Power

  • The Supplier Equipment manuals and/or Manual of good practice

  • Supports Control Room Operator on plant operations during assigned shift to operate the plant safely and efficiently.

  • Responsible for general inspection of systems and equipment in a combined cycle power plant.

  • Responsible for inspection, adjustments of operational equipment and participates in periodic plant inspections. Starts, stops, monitors, records data, evaluate all plant excursions and normal operations.

  • The ability and awareness to work safely in a variety of conditions. Cautions others, as vital, in working in a safe working manner.

  • Enforce to all company guidelines and procedures.

  • ALL INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS: Knowledge of system, operations and maintenance and corrective action.

  • Routine monitoring and data acquisition of all equipment and systems.

  • Collection of water samples for analysis by the Control Room Operator.

  • Assumes responsibility in good housekeeping practices.

  • MATERIAL HANDLING: Unloading acid, caustic, fuel oil, water treatment chemicals, etc. Fork lift and overhead crane operation

  • Technical knowledge in one or more of the following fields: Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Operation, Mechanical and/or Hydraulics

  • Ability to learn new techniques, skills and work methods

  • Show Initiative and Resourcefulness

  • Have good decision-making abilities and critical thinking.

  • Ability to accept accountability and responsibility for their own actions

  • Be available to work flexible hours depending on the job or situation

  • Being able to adapt to change and spot changes in your environment

  • Assist and/or direct outside contractors with plant maintenance/repairs

  • Responsible for the understanding of the plant water treatment program. Maintaining accurate chemistry by testing and making necessary adjustments and recommendations.

  • Assist in instilling a culture of continuous improvement, an active role in pride of ownership, and partnership.




  • Prepare equipment for maintenance and/or tag out and isolation in accordance with set procedures and guidelines of established safety procedures to support the operating plan. Communicate and work with maintenance personnel and others as appropriate.

  • Routine monitoring and data acquisition of all equipment and systems.

  • Prepare and close work orders as required.

  • Assist in maintenance during scheduled outages. Assist as required in solving sophisticated operating and maintenance problems




  • Assists Control Room Operator/ Boiler Operator on plant operations Lock Out/Tag Out program during assigned shift.

  • Prepare daily operational logs during assigned shift work, and be proficient with the lockout/tagout program.

  • Prepare and close work orders as required.


Education & Experience


  • Basic Job Knowledge - specialized knowledge of specific commercial, technical, trades, or office operations areas

  • 3 to 5 years of experience
