Mandate: Mid-level business analyst. This is multi-faceted position that requires a level of comprehension of the Electrical Procurement group’s software to provide technical support and resolve user-based problems, analytical prowess to support the functions of the settlement process, and energy marketing acumen to assist in departmental strategy review. This is a highly visible position within the department tasked with developing analytical tools, business process automation and dashboard creation. Teamwork is a must as this position will work in concert with software vendors to manage software development as well as the corporate IT department to coordinate system upgrades and diagnose software issues while also providing market based support to assist in the departmental feedback loop and reporting requirements when needed.

Job Functions:

  • Coordinate with Corporate IT department and third party vendors to ensure the stability and performance of the departmental systems. Maintain thorough understanding of system design to assist with issue recognition and mitigation. Position will be primary liaison between the Electrical Procurement Group and Corporate IT thus requiring active participation in change management. (upgrades, migrations, outages, etc.)
  • Coordinate with software vendors to utilize maintenance agreements for software issues, while keeping management and necessary personnel apprised of updates, support levels, unresolved issues, etc. Will require determination to follow issue from ticket creation, WebEx and conference call coordination, to proposed solution, testing and user approval.
  • Creative ability to design, implement and maintain solutions to meet information systems requirements needed to communicate and exchange data with other departments, utilities, power pools, regulatory authorities and reliability councils and seek ways to integrate and combine these solutions as much as possible.
  • Develop market acumen to a level which enables ability to assist department in the creation, development, and implementation of strategic and informational reports with the ability to validate for accuracy. Develop understanding of current departmental reporting to provide validation ability and/or primary completion on an as needed basis.
  • Actively participate in various SPP organization groups in order to stay abreast of any market changes/enhancements that would require system or strategic response. Communicate with members of department or larger company wide committee of upcoming issues, changes, etc. and seek input from appropriate individuals to manage Empire’s interest during group comment periods.
  • Develop ability to provide support of other employee’s responsibilities in order to both 1)create departmental depth 2) and determine areas where development of automation would increase efficiency while maintaining the necessary validation and oversight.
  • Project Management for implementation of new software and major releases.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems, Business field (accounting, finance, etc), Engineering, or equivalent experience. Programming knowledge of Visual Basic, SQL scripting,and spreadsheet proficiency is highly preferred while system administration experience is a plus. Experience working with large amounts of data, including experience with SQL-based relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle, with an emphasis on extraction and manipulation. Experience in the SPP energy market or commensurate market beneficial. Experience with Python, R and data analysis tools a plus.
