The distribution business group (Liberty Utilities) provides rate regulated water, electricity and natural gas utility services to over 782,000 customers in the United States. The transmission business group invests in rate regulated electric transmission and natural gas pipeline systems in the United States and Canada.

The generation business group (Liberty Power, formerly known as Algonquin Power) owns a portfolio of regulated and long term contracted North American based wind, solar, hydroelectric and thermal powered generating facilities representing more than 1,800 MW of installed capacity.


Mandate: 
This position is responsible for preparing the quarterly and annual U.S. income tax provision and consolidation for Liberty Utilities - U.S. as well as the legal entity and income tax provision consolidation for Liberty Power - U.S. Also, this position is responsible for preparing corporate and partnership income tax return working papers and working closely with external income tax return preparers in order to complete these tax returns in a timely and accurate manner. 

Job Functions:

  • Prepare quarterly and annual separate and U.S. consolidated income tax provisions under U.S. GAAP 
  • Review income tax provisions prepared by regional tax managers
  • Prepare pro-forma legal entity working papers for U.S. federal income tax returns.
  • Review income tax returns prepared by external advisors 
  • Prepare/calculate/review annual federal and state income tax estimated payment and extension requests 
  • Respond to regulatory requests in a timely and accurate manner 
  • Maintain or review accumulated deferred income tax calculations for regulated utilities 
  • Research and respond to ad-hoc income, sales/use, and property tax technical questions 
  • Maintain tax compliance and reporting calendar
  • Prepare annual income tax provision to tax return reconciliation
  • Maintain or review accumulated deferred income tax calculations for regulated utilities
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experiences in US taxation 
  • U.S. CPA or equivalent 
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • University - Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Public accounting or public company experience preferred
