Mandate: This position reports to Manager, External Reporting.  Responsibilities would include monthly financial close, maintaining consolidation and reporting software, involvement in the financial statement close process including financial statements and MD&A and other ad hoc requests.

Job Functions:

  • Accounting
    • Actively support and participate in monthly financial close cycle to facilitate the production of timely and accurate financial statements .
    • Prepare monthly journal entries including but not limited to Head office accounting, intercompany, share based payments and any other entries from treasury.
    • Prepare timely and accurate Balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations for Head office and other offshore subsidiaries.
    • Perform direct and indirect billing from Head office to regions.
  • Analysis & Reporting
    • Roll forward quarterly financial statements, including notes.
    • Prepare and analyze assigned notes to the quarterly consolidated financial statements as well as complete sets of assigned standalone financial statements. Preparation and review of cash flows as needed.
    • Prepare and analyze inputs to the quarterly Management Discussion and Analysis "MD&A" including but not limited to Non-GAAP measures and profit and loss quarterly analytics.
    • Assist / perform in accounting functions including but not limited to share based compensation, foreign exchange proof etc.
    • Provide accounting research and analysis of significant contracts, complex accounting transactions and new accounting and reporting standards.
    • Assess the impact of accounting changes on financial statements, procedures and internal controls
    • Development of new/enhanced reporting to advance understanding of company performance and yielding value add insights.
  • Internal Audit, External Audit
    • Provide significant support for external and internal audits including but not limited to documentation and other related information requests.
    • Facilitate process walkthrough with internal and/or external auditors.
    • Support and execute processes aligned with internal control and GAAP standards.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Significant support of the budgeting and forecasting cycles including information input and consolidation with supporting analytics.
    • Support Regulatory filings possibly including providing input and draft responses for filings appropriate for gov't agency requests.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Support system implementation, maintenance and enhancement activities.
    • Actively participate in the identification and execution of process improvement/best practice initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University - Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Expertise - advanced/well-developed skills and knowledge within a specific professional discipline involving the integration of theory and principles with organizational practices and precedents
  • 3-5 years of experiences
  • In process of pursuing professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting theory, generally accepted accounting principles
  • Utility accounting experience an asset
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and report financial information
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database applications
  • Experience with Great Plains system an asset
