Purpose

This is an exciting position for a high energy leader with strong experience and knowledge managing the market exposure of physical Renewable Energy Operating Assets within North America. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight and management of Liberty's energy market positions for existing operating assets plus being responsible for providing business development support for new project development as it pertains to insight on market pricing for capacity, energy, basis exposure and RECs as well as all available market products which might be part of an overall strategy to mitigate market exposure. The successful candidate will be a senior leader in energy marketing with significant experience and knowledge in US styled deregulated power markets specifically including: ERCOT (Texas), PJM (Pennsylvania / New Jersey), MISO (Michigan / Illinois), ISONE (New England), CASIO (California), AESO (Alberta), etc. Other markets are a bonus. In this role you will provide leadership to a growing team of energy services. The successful candidates will work closely with the SVP of Renewable Energy to develop a 3 - 5 yr. hedging (Portfolio Mgmt. plan) and a strategic long term plan to support the growing marketing and customer relationship, data mgmt. and market analytical needs of the business. The successful candidates, with the SVP of Renewable Energy will represent the front office on the Commodity Risk Management Committee.                              

Accountabilities

Strategy and Policy

The successful candidate will have previous experience developing and or adhering to a commodity risk management policy and framework designed around a Front, middle and back office environment. In addition this part of the business will be subject to a number of other overarching governance, risk, HR and Operational policies. The successful candidate will be responsible for working together with the broader team and the SVP of Renewable Generation to build out a 3-5 yr. Energy Marketing strategy as they lead the energy marketing team's execution of same.

Customer Care Team Management

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing relationships together with the broader Energy Services Team. Relations will be internal such as business development support work as well as external such as C&I (Commercial & Industrial) off-take customers. This will become an increasingly more intentional effort from this part of the business as Liberty rapidly expands its deregulated business portfolio.                                                                               

Project Support             

The successful candidate will lead the marketing aspects of new business development projects in various stages transition from Development to Construction and Operations. Other specific projects within the Energy Services Team include: C&I Customer Mgmt. program, Data Mgmt. project (i.e. Data Lake, data mgmt. tooling and modelling and the adoption of a Market Analytics program designed to identify a Liberty view of the market in the regions where we have projects in development and operations.

Leadership

The successful candidate will provide guidance and energy marketing leadership to a cross functional and eager team of energy professionals who have a pretty good understanding of our existing business. Leadership in this case would be a combination of stretching market knowledge and general people leadership growth.

Asset Optimization Leadership & Expertise

The successful candidate will oversee the optimization of our existing assets within the energy markets which will include at a minimum management of 3 plus yr. hedges, intra year hedging, REC portfolio mgmt., short - medium term capacity sales and marketing as well as energy market settlements within the various regional independent deregulated power markets.                                                                     

Education & Experience

  • University Degree, CA, CFA , MBA an asset
  • Specific education related to Energy Trading & Marketing or Energy Risk Management will be considered an asset.
  • 10 years + of working experience in US styled deregulated power markets.                                         
  • Strong Organizational skills, strong written and verbal presentation skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, strong financial acumen and commercial deal acumen.
  • Experience leading teams.
  • Strong understanding of the Renewable Energy Market.
