Mandate: 
Required to start-up, shutdown, operate and monitor various types of equipment within the Cogeneration Facility.  Must be fully oriented to the Cogeneration operations and capable of responding to emergency situations, while communicating and following directions of the Control Room Operator.  Required to assist in the daily maintenance of equipment.  Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including holidays. 

Job Functions:

 Operation of the facility/equipment in accordance with: 

  • All regulatory permits and laws
  • The site Operation Manual (which will have a list of plant specific job function that must be completed)
  • The Energy Services Agreement;
  • OHSA 
  • All the relevant safety standards of Algonquin Power
  • The Supplier Equipment manuals and/or Manual of good practice
  1. Supports Control Room Operator on plant operations during assigned shift to operate the plant safely and efficiently. 
  2. Responsible for general inspection of systems and equipment in a combined cycle power plant. 
  3. Responsible for inspection, adjustments of operational equipment and participates in periodic plant inspections. Starts, stops, monitors, records data, evaluate all plant excursions and normal operations.
  4. The ability and awareness to work safely in a variety of conditions. Cautions others, as necessary, in working in a safe working manner. 
  5. Adhere to all company guidelines and procedures.
  6. ALL INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS:  Knowledge of system, operations and maintenance and corrective action.   
  7. Routine monitoring and data acquisition of all equipment and systems.
  8. Collection of water samples for analysis by the Control Room Operator.
  9. Assumes responsibility in good housekeeping practices.
  10. Prepare equipment for maintenance and/or tag out and isolation in accordance with set procedures and guidelines of established safety procedures to support the operating plan. Communicate and interface with maintenance personnel and others as appropriate.
  11. Routine monitoring and data acquisition of all equipment and systems.
  12. Prepare and close work orders as required.
  13. Assist in maintenance during scheduled outages. 
  14. Assist as required in solving complex operating and maintenance problems
  15. Assist and/or direct outside contractors with plant maintenance/repairs
  16. Assists Control Room Operator/ Boiler Operator on plant operations Lock Out/Tag Out program during assigned shift. 
  17. Prepare daily operational logs during assigned shift work, and be proficient with the lockout/tagout program.
  18. Prepare and close work orders as required.
  19. Strong organizational & time management skills 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School, Vocational Training (or equivalent).
  • 5 – 7 years experience in Steam Plant Operations. 
  • Secondary skills in the area of maintenance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel & PI data software
  • A solid understanding of “Safety First” and the ability to apply these principles to every job or situation
  • Ability to perform work alone and independently
  • Perform other duties/tasks as directed by management
  • Complete Control Room Operator qualifications
  • Oversee the work carried out by facility staff or contractors as the Person In Charge (PIC)
