The generation business group (Algonquin) owns a portfolio of regulated and long term contracted North American based wind, solar, hydroelectric and thermal powered generating facilities representing more than 2,500 MW of installed capacity.

Mandate:  Senior Manager of Wind Operations is accountable for the safe and reliable operation of all Wind facilities within the APCo Fleet. This person is ultimately accountable for the financial performance of the Wind fleet within the parameters of the corporate mission statement and values:

Job Functions:

  • Accountable for the safe and reliable operation of all Wind assets
  • Accountable for the financial performance of all Wind assets
  • Accountable for adherence to corporate policies and procedures by all staff under his/her direction
  • Accountable to ensure divisional alignment with APCo business strategy and corporate direction
  • Uphold the corporate mission statement and values
  • Manage the employees within the Wind facilities to meet operational requirements
  • Plan and schedule operations staff and implement strategies to maximize revenue
  • Establish maintenance and operating standards for Wind fleet
  • Ensure that facility contractors are meeting contractual obligations
  • Establish annual objectives and targets for the Wind fleet in conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigating activities
  • Report monthly operating and financial performance
  • Plan and execute sustaining capital projects
  • Ensure that operations staff is adequately trained to meet company objectives
  • Develop divisional succession plans for management, operators and technician teams
  • Develop annual budgets within approved budget parameters
  • Interface with other departments as required
  • Interface with external agencies as required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of corporate and the wind farm operations in safety standards and practices of Canada and the USA
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations related to wind farm operations
  • Knowledge and understanding of generating equipment construction and operation with a international background
  • Strong understanding of wind farm operations in Canada and USA
  • Strong understanding of budgeting and cost control practices in relation to wind farm operations
  • Ability to manage and lead a large group of diverse people
  • Ability to travel to the various facilities
  • Ability to set goals and objectives, prioritize objectives and meet deadlines
  • Ability to make quick decisions and use good and sound judgment
  • Ability to write professional quality reports related to wind farm operations
  • Proficient with the use of Word, Excel and Outlook software programs
  • Excellent communication skills (Written & Oral)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (preferred) or equivalent progressive experience
  • 7 years of O&M and EHS management experience within wind farm operations
  • 5 years’ experience in developing programs related to wind farm operations
  • Previous leadership experience in opening up a new entity within an international company
  • Experience working with an international company and experience working both in Canada and the USA
  • Experience developing a customer service program
  • Experience creating/developing SCADA centers
  • Experience designing/developing/deploying O&M and EHS programs
  • Has experience in obtaining/recording ISO 14001/18001 certification
  • Experience in developing an international Tech. progression program
  • Has a proven track record of reducing injuries
  • Training experience in Six Sigma preferred
  • Leadership experience in wind farm construction
  • Knowledge and/or experience dealing OEM wind fleet
  • Has BOP experience in an international setting
