Mandate: Assist with aligning company's efforts in meeting federally mandated North American Electric Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection System compliance (NERC CIPS) by analyzing controls on mission critical systems and support seamless integration of adherence to new NERC standards and rulings. This includes compliance analysis with other governmental regulation divisions including but not limited to FERC, NERC, Canadian provinces as well as the 6 NERC Regional Entities and 3 Canadian Provincial Markets.

Job Functions:

  • Assist in organizing, developing, documenting, facilitating, and report Algonquin NERC cyber procedures, NERC cyber plans, and efforts to comply with NERC, FERC, and regional reliability standards, and Canadian provincial criteria. Conduct audits of Algonquin's processes internally in collaboration with s compliance staff and externally with staff and externally with regulatory agencies. This will require interaction with other departments internally and externally with the regulators of various North American regions.
  • Provide regular data updates with minimal direction and progress reports to the Director of NERC Compliance and Senior management regarding Algonquin's compliance status in order to further Algonquin's efforts for full compliance ratings and minimize material financial impacts to the company.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating the internal completion and distribution of quarterly and semi-annual internal status reports, surveys, cyber program reminders and external reports for the various committees, NERC, area commissions and others, as required, related to Algonquin's compliance and assist with training internal staff regarding system reliability compliance.
  • Assist internal Algonquin subject matter experts and external Regulator personnel to achieve necessary compliance activities within government mandated timelines and gain the ability to identify the need to self-report or self log when not compliant.
  • Learn regional regulatory requirements local to many different Algonquin Assets, as well as NERC reliability compliance standards and requirements.
  • Assist and participate in effectively advocating the company's position regarding technical and business policy positions within NERC and other regulator stakeholder committees as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in one of the following is required:  Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, and minimum of 3 years of at least one of the following:Computer programming, Computer Networking, Information Technology or NERC compliance experience.
  • Must have past experience in technical writing, computers, group leadership, personal time management and organizational skills.
  • Experience in effectively communicating with multiple parties throughout the business in a professional manner.
  • Experience with complying with regulatory requirements preferred.
  • IT network security experience would be beneficial.
