Mandate: Assist with aligning company's efforts in meeting federally mandated North American Electric Reliability 693 standards compliance by analyzing controls on The Bulk Electric System within the Algonquin North American NERC assets and support seamless integration of adherence to new standards and rulings.  This includes compliance analysis with other governmental regulation divisions as needed such as FERC and NERC Regional Entitites (WECC, MRO, TRE, NPCC, RF, and SERC).

Job Functions:

  • Assist in organizing, developing, documenting, facilitating, and reporting Algonquin NERC asset procedures, plans, and efforts to comply with NERC, FERC, and regional reliability standards, criteria and audits to Algonquin compliance staff and externally with regulatory agencies.  This will require interaction with other interconnected NERC regional entity staff members and the other market oversight organizations in which our assets reside.
  • Provide regular data updates with minimal direction and progress reports to the Director of NERC Compliance, peers and senior management regarding Algonquin's NERC compliance status in order to further Algonquin's efforts for full compliance ratings and minimize material financial impacts to the company.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating the internal completion and distribution of quarterly and semi-annual internal status reports, surveys, and external reports for NERC, and regional entitites as required, related to Algonquin's compliance and reporting of Algonquin's operations, assist with NERC training, guidance, and operational interpretations of NERC standards.
  • Assist internal company subject matter experts and externals regional entity personnel to achieve necessary compliance activities within government mandated timelines and gain the ability to identify the need to self-report when not compliant.
  • Learn each regional entity, NERC reliability compliance standards and requirements and work with internal subject matter experts to access and document areas of compliance through evidence collection and completion of reliability standards auditor workbooks (RSAWS) annually.
  • Assist and participate in effectively advocating Algonquin's position regarding technical and business policy positions within NERC and regional entity discussions as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in one of the following is required:  Engineering, Computer Schience, Information Technology, and minimum of 5 years' in the electric utility industry or NERC compliance experience.  Must possess excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Must have past experience in technical writing, computers, group leadership, and organizational skills
  • Experience in effectively communicating with government or regulatory agencies in a professional manner preferred.
