COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS




Salary Range: $92,000 - $137,000 annually depending on skills and experience.

In addition to salary, Liberty Utilities offers an incentive plan based on company and individual performance.

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES/ ACCOUNTABILITY



This position is primarily responsible for managing the income tax matters of the Liberty West group of companies and is a key position in the tax department to ensure entities under the Liberty West group meet their external and internal tax reporting and compliance requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare or review quarterly tax provisions and effective tax rate reconciliations for Liberty West group of companies in both functional and reporting currency to meet U.S. GAAP reporting and disclosure requirements

  • Work with third-party tax preparers to ensure Liberty West group income tax returns are filed accurately and timely

  • Assist in long-term tax forecasting and annual tax expense budgeting

  • Prepare or review forecasts (including outsourcing as needed) of deferred tax including state and federal tax depreciation used to support General Rate Case filing. Sponsor testimony as needed

  • Ensure estimates of deferred tax used for budgeted and recorded rate base amounts are reasonable

  • Work with divisional accounting personnel to complete reconciliation and continuity schedules for major accounts with book to tax timing differences

  • Review and/or post journal entries as required

  • Work with auditors from different tax authorities and maintain a good and healthy relationship with them to ensure smooth audit processes

  • Ensure all entities are properly registered in applicable jurisdictions and all correspondences from tax authorities are properly addressed

  • Assist in tax research and planning assignments

  • Provide income tax subject matter expertise support for long term enterprise resource planning project

  • Respond to ad hoc tax queries and advise internal parties of tax implications on transactions as needed

  • React to change productively and undertake other tasks as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 



  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in U.S. corporate income tax along with a professional accounting designation (CPA preferred)

  • Exposure to regulated utility income tax matters preferred, but not required

  • Degree or diploma in tax, accounting, finance, or business

  • Self-directed and ability to work independently in a subsidiary location and report to headquarters in a timely, comprehensive manner

  • Excellent communication skills (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with other team members and different departments

  • Attention to detail and strong hands-on skills

  • Able to work with and meet tight deadlines

  • Proficient in the use of MS office products; SAP or similar; Power Plan and Power Tax exposure preferred; Hyperion smart-view preferred

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
