COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS



Salary Range:  $92,000 - $137,000 annually depending on skills and experience.

In addition to salary, Liberty Utilities offers an incentive plan based on company and individual performance.

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES/ ACCOUNTABILITY



This position is primarily responsible for the preparation of tax provisions and tax compliance, assists in tax research and planning, and is a key position in the tax department to ensure all entities under the Liberty West group meet their external and internal tax reporting and compliance requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare tax provisions on quarterly basis for Liberty West group of companies in both functional and reporting currency to meet the reporting and disclosure requirements under US GAAP

  • Prepare rate reconciliations for Liberty West group of companies on quarterly basis to identify all the differences between effective tax rate and statutory tax rate

  • Review and/or prepare tax return working papers for all the Liberty West entities on timely basis

  • Work with third-party tax preparers to ensure all the Liberty West returns are filed accurately and timely

  • Work with divisional accounting personnel to prepare reconciliation and continuity schedules for major accounts with book to tax timing difference, including fixed assets, pension/OPEB obligations, regulatory assets and liabilities, reserves, financing costs and etc.

  • Work with auditors from different tax authorities and maintain a good and healthy relationship with them to ensure smooth audit processes

  • Work with internal departments closely to gather information and documents required by tax auditors, and communicate audit scope and requirements clearly and effectively to internal departments to achieve higher efficiency and productivity in the process of information gathering for tax auditors

  • Ensure all entities are properly registered in applicable jurisdictions and all correspondences from tax authorities are properly addressed

  • Review and/or post journal entries as required

  • Assist in long-term tax forecasting and annual tax expense budgeting

  • Assist in tax research and planning assignments

  • Prepare forecasts of deferred tax used to support General Rate Case filing

  • Prepare forecasts of state and federal tax depreciation used to support General Rate Case filing

  • Sponsor deferred tax/tax depreciation testimony in General Rate Case filing

  • Prepare estimates of deferred tax used for the calculation of both budgeted and recorded rate base amounts for internal reporting

  • Provide income tax subject matter expertise support for long term enterprise resource planning project

  • Respond to ad hoc tax queries and advise internal parties of tax implications on certain transactions as needed

  • React to change productively and to undertake other tasks as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS




  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in U.S. corporate income tax along with a professional accounting designation (CPA preferred)

  • Degree or diploma in tax, accounting, finance, or business

  • Self-directed and ability to work independently in a subsidiary location and report to headquarters in a timely, comprehensive manner

  • Excellent communication skills (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with other team members and different departments

  • Attention to details and strong hands-on skills

  • Able to work with and meet tight deadlines

  • Proficient in the use of MS office products

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
