The generation business group (Liberty Power, formerly known as Algonquin Power) owns a portfolio of regulated and long term contracted North American based wind, solar, hydroelectric and thermal powered generating facilities representing more than 1.5+ GW of installed capacity.

Mandate: This role will support the renewable power generation acquisition team with its financial analysis as well as its market research and market outreach processes. You will gain a deeper understanding of the industry, its economics, and developments relating to the renewable industry in this role.

Job Functions:

  • Support the financial analysts by providing research and analysis needed in the project acquisition and development processes, as well as assisting with ad-hoc projects and tasks
  • Assist with wind and solar energy RFPs, developing an understanding of renewable energy projects to provide written materials for project submissions
  • Research trends in the power and utilities space, on themes including technology, construction, and financing
  • Provide periodical and ad-hoc reports based on research
  • Review and analyze special areas of interest relative to renewable generation projects (solar and wind)
  • Presentation of research (report writing, collaborative presentation)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2nd to 4th year student attending College or University with a focus on Finance, Commerce, Policy, or Renewable Energies
  • Basic understanding of financial metrics that drive financial success in private enterprise
  • Strong attention to detail, and exceptional writing skills
  • Working knowledge relating to commodity market fundamentals
  • Data collection, analysis and presentation skills
  • Market research experience of both public sources/records and purchased/private access databases
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
