The Lead Damage Prevention Specialist serves as a Team Leader in the Damage Prevention Department. Oversee and routinely participates working in conjunction with the Damage Prevention Specialists and others. Personnel are generally responsible for the on-site inspection of third-party construction near the company’s underground distribution system in an effort to minimize third-party damage and protect public safety.

  • Responsible for inspecting the work of third party excavators, including enforcement of company procedures regarding safe operation near company gas facilities.
  • Responsible for the accurate marking of gas company facilities before and during construction.
  • Responsible for pre-marking for company excavations in accordance with Georgia Dig Laws and Regulations.
  • Responsible for the leak survey and monitoring of encroachments in conjunction with third-party excavation as necessary, as well as, pre- and post- blasting surveys as necessary.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of all field activities.
  • Responsible for assisting operations supervisors in the follow-up and inspection of potential encroachments.
  • Dispatches, plans, monitors, inspects and records responses for line locate request received from excavators, engineers and other customers.
  • Reads utility prints and maps for the purpose of determining location of Gas distribution and transmission infrastructure in order to effectively mark the location in order to avoid damage.
  • Locates underground gas facilities through means of electronic detection equipment.
  • Marks underground facility by means of paint, flags and pipeline markers.
  • Visually inspects natural gas infrastructure, ROW locations, company drawings and other utility areas for abnormal conditions or discrepancies and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Performs duties within Company policies and procedures and in compliance with all Federal and state excavation / dig laws.
  • Represents the company at planning and coordination meetings for excavations including, DOT, Public Works, City and other industry related organizations.
  • Participates and may facilitate damage prevention education programs including public awareness programs, as well as liaison meetings with emergency responders.
  • Assist in training and directing other employees in the same or similar duties.
  • Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
  • Demonstrates support for and adheres to the Company’s values, strategies, policies and procedures and exhibits the core values of Liberty’s mission statement, customer service, safety and the Company’s code of conduct both as an individual contributor and team member.

In the absence of Department Supervisor:

  • Plan and manage the efforts and resources of the damage prevention team in the area in order to ensure safety, reliability and integrity of the gas distribution system consistent with company goals, objectives and policies.
  • Direct damage prevention personnel and coordinate daily planning with prioritizing situations as they arise on a daily basis.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Make notifications to senior management regarding emergencies.
  • Coordinate Emergency Response within Damage Prevention Group.
  • Be a technical resource for junior department personal.
  • Lead/ conduct investigations to reported incidents and record incident investigation reports outlining events of incident.
  • Will work closely with all department personal to provide effective guidance and support to ensure policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance with federal, state and local laws.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 – 3 years experience
  • Prior Distribution Experience
  • Knowledge of company damage prevention and construction practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work in multiple computer applications
  • Ability to read and understand GIS/System Maps.
