Purpose

Reporting to the leader of Energy Marketing, the Energy Market Analyst is responsible for the economic and financial analysis as they relate to LPCo’s profitability, competitiveness, and growth opportunities. This is a position that provides assistance to and supports the accountabilities of Energy Marketing & Asset Management and fulfills a strategic analysis role within a team environment.

Accountabilities

Market Analysis/Forecasting

  • Provide decision quality analysis and recommendation to energy marketing team and senior managers

  • Gather and maintain database of energy market and production data on energy and environment sectors and conduct in depth analysis as it pertains to the markets we operate in

  • Provide summary and consensus view of subscribed energy market outlooks and forward market prices annually to support budgeting and forecasting in core markets

Energy Marketing Strategies

  • Support development execution of short, medium and long term energy marketing strategies

  • Build and/or support energy marketing strategies by summarizing key drivers and make strategic recommendations on how to mitigate potential threats and capitalize on upcoming opportunities

  • Provide ambitious market intelligence research projects to provide strategic insight to business partners

Reporting

  • Prepare reports, illustrating graphically and translating findings into written texts with different formats; short analysis reports, reports or PowerPoint presentations

  • Make recommendations on what the information means and how it can be used based on analysis

  • Monitor and collect key industry intelligence, identify trends and translate into quarterly report

  • Ad hoc projects and reports as required

 

Education & Experience

  • University - Bachelor degree or equivalent in Economics, Actuarial Sciences, Engineering or Computer Science

  • 5-10 years of experience

Other Requirements

  • 1-3 years in a research or analytical role, ability to quickly understand and conceptualize business requirements and deliver insightful, fact based solutions to meet those requirements

  • Strong coding ability and knowledge of several coding languages (R and Python)

  • Strong understanding of best practices in software development, version control systems, automated testing, development frameworks etc.
