Mandate: The key purpose of this position is to lead and manage a team responsible for: 1) all customer and employee communications, media relations and marketing for Liberty Utilities in the West Region 2) Enhancing customer satisfaction through continual communications improvements; 3) Increasing employee engagement through the development and implementation of employee marketing and communications campaigns; 4) Developing and maintaining consistent messaging across all communications channels that supports both the local and corporate brand; 5) Supporting and driving customer expansion (energy efficiency and franchise expansion) through the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns; 5) Creating content and production of PUC-mandated newsletters/bill inserts, website and social media postings. Serve as company spokesperson and respond to all media inquiries; 6) water conservation initiatives, events, communications and reporting.

Job Functions:

  • Lead and manage a regional team of Program Managers, responsible for communications and marketing programs that drive employee engagement, customer satisfaction and customer expansion in the West Region.
  • Develop and implement communications and marketing strategies to drive customer satisfaction, employee engagement and the LU brand.
  • Provide ongoing motivation, recognition, coaching and feedback, as well as learning development opportunities to further expand on team's skill set and career aspirations.
  • Collaborate with other departments and regions to provide support and share best practices.
  • Promote a positive company culture and employee engagement.
  • Collaborate and support other departments in West Region, other regions and corporate to enhance all communications.
  • Develop and execute all customer communications including bill inserts and newsletters that satisfy strict PUC requirements. Interview, collect data and write effectively about complex topics. Develop and execute press releases, manage all media inquiries.
  • Develop and deliver company presentations, host meetings and events.
  • Develop and assist team as required to execute content for company website and social media platforms. Support other Liberty Regions with website updates.
  • Speak on behalf of the company in response to media inquiries - On call off hours.
  • Promote company values internal and externally through a variety of communications channels.
  • Promote a positive company reputation, organize, promote and attend community events.
Other Functions:
  • Works weekends, holidays and additional hours as required.
  • Will drive a company vehicle to travel to west region locations approx. 30% of time.
  • Travel to head office in Canada occasionally (passport required).
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; reports all unsafe activities to the supervisor, Manager of Safety Services, and/or Human Resources.
  • Performs various other duties and supports other Liberty Utilities regions as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or a related field or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 10+ years of related experience including; public relations, media relations, corporate and customer communications, crisis and project management.
  • 5+ years of working knowledge with general practices, methods and procedures related to social media, website communications and marketing.
  • Utility communications experience an asset.
  • 5+ years of proven leadership experience including coaching, mentoring and productive communication and support.
  • Strong communications skills both oral and written (including grammar, punctuation and spelling).
  • Effectively plan activities, set priorities, and identify alternative course of action when needed.
  • Exercise independent judgment, discretion, finesse, professionalism and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential nature.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including public speaking, listening and interpretive skills; must be able to work with people at all levels of the organization and also with customers and industry professionals.
  • Must be dynamic, self-motivated, extremely organized and able to multi-task.
  • Able to work independently but also to function in a team environment.
  • Professional appearance as a front-line representative of the Company.
  • Be able to meet established goals and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Adobe Photoshop experience an asset 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish language) verbal and written skills are highly preferred.
  • A valid Class C driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
