Hours of Work: 40 Hours / week
Work Location: Oakville, Ontario

Salary:  $140,000-$155,000.00

Duties:

  • Financial analysis
    • Oversee the preparation, and provide review, of detailed financial models for proposed development projects
    • Provide financial analysis required to support project and equipment acquisition
    • Recommend modeling strategies based on current industry practices
    • Ensure consistency and appropriateness of all major assumptions contained in financial models
    • Perform all tasks in a timely and accurate manner
    • Must be able to prepare and validate reliable financial models which will form the basis for major (minimum $25 million) strategic decisions.
    • Provide custom reports as required
    • Maintain current knowledge of implications of tax and tax equity for the US and Canadian markets
    • Consistently manage overall due diligence process once transaction is underway
    • Liaise and coordinate internal and external resources to hone assumptions in financial model
    • Ensure sign off from internal resources on model assumptions prior to seeking board approval for transaction
  • Communication
    • Liaise with finance group on a regular basis to track operating and capital expenses in accordance with budget
    • Employ strong communication skills collect and document information from Algonquin team members and third-party partners to support key assumptions
    • Liaise with project developers, project managers, technical team, and operations/asset management to ensure accurate modeling and business case development
    • Liaise with treasury group to ensure appropriate capital planning
    • Defend analytical work directly to their manager, departmental VP, and CEO
  • Leadership
    • Manage the daily work of a team of financial analysts
    • Review analysts' work and provide guidance
    • Training and development of team members
  • Additional Duties
    • Plan, develop and organize the policies and procedures of these establishments
    • Direct and advise staff in the development and implementation of service quality assessment strategies
    • Represent the company within various economic and social organizations

Requirements:

  • Advanced/well-developed skills and knowledge within a specific professional discipline involving the integration of theory and principles with organizational practices and precedents
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or Engineering, Master’s degree considered an asset;
  • Must have experience in financial modeling, forecasting, valuation and layering in project finance structures
  • 5-10 years of experience in renewable energy related finance
  • 3 years of experience in a financial role
  • Strong financial modeling skills
  • Team management/leadership skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be able to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Knowledge of financing structures unique to the US solar market in particular the US tax treatment and underlying tax equity structures considered an asset;
  • Understanding of development partners and financing partners with experience operating in the US market considered an asset;
  • Understanding of evolving Energy Storage landscape and how it integrates with a solar project customer offering considered an asset.
